Web 2.0 is the use of technology and web design that aims to design a website based on creativity, the sharing of information, and the ability to collaborate amongs other users of the website. Social-Networking seems to have been a start to the Web 2.0 world. The concepts of Web 2.0 has led to the development and evolution of communities and hosted services, such as blogger.com, facebook.com, and thousands of other social-networking sites, wikis and blogs.
Most people automatically assume, like a sequal to a movie, Web 2.0 is a sequal to the internet, a new version of the internet. Web 2.0 does not mean any update to technical requirements of a website are necessary, however, it does change how developers and users alike use the internet on a daily basis. Now, Web 2.0 has put the internet on a by the minute basis!
Is The Internet Changing Because Of Web 2.0
Most definetly, although the internet changes every single day, the term Web 2.0 has put a new spin on things. Web 2.0 specifically refers to the second-generation of internet based services, and users. Although the changes are un-deniably visible, most believe we as humans are actually changing and adapting to the internet, rather than the internet adapting to human beings. That is quite a statement to make, but, if you think about how quick the world, human beings, and the internet changed when myspace.com became known, wow. Not only was it a hot news topic for quite some time, it was a daily activity for millions upon millions of web users. Now as Alexa and other statistic companies show a drop in MySpace traffic, due to many web 2.0 users switching to newer, more updated models of social networking, such as Facebook, does this mean, another marketing buzz word? Web 3.0. Ok before we got that far, let's explain the Web 2.0 world a little more first.
Explain Web 2.0 In A Nutshell
Do you remember having a personal web page, before having a blog? Most people do! Blogging allows regular internet users to set up a personal blog in 3-5 minutes, choosing a unique name, and what content they are going to write about or a specific niche they may be interested in. Upon your newly created blog, other web 2.0 users can now go to your blog and post a reply, a comment, rate, or simply read and share with others plus much more. What is web 2.0? This is Web 2.0, an infrastructure of people being able to communicate quickly and easily, without having technical knowledge. So "What Is Web 2.0", it is the means of creating a connection and relationship through the the use of the internet to connect abroad. It is a connection of individuals sharing ideas, and building relationships.

What Is A Rich Internet Application (RIA)
These are Web applications that have the features and functionality of traditional desktop applications. RIA's typically refer to the transfer and processing of a user interface to a web user. The main idea is to keep most of the data on the original application server. Have you ever seen flash? Where a video is shown on your screen, but you can click on buttons and can interact with the video? This is considered a rich internet application.
What Is A Service Oriented Architecture
A definition from Google, said "This is two or more entities interacting in such a way to enable one entity to perform a unit of work on behalf of another entity." I have never enjoyed the word entity, so lets break that down. As an exampleLets take one web page and this page has a submit button, when you click submit, your page doesn't refresh or reload, it automatically changes the text of a box on your screen. This is service oriented, the button submits information in the background, which then, submits information back to the text box without changing your screen. Something is helping it along! Service Orientation is a method of architecting for autonomous services.
According to Tim O'Reilly:
"Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform."

Research into Web 2.0 using a variety of services, mainly Google Trends brought results dating back to 2004 for Web 2.0 news. Other research provided no results before 2004.

Web 2.0 Technology
This is more for the technology people, however, the complex and continually evolving technology of the world today, has put the internet into an infrastructure of Web 2.0 which includes server-software, content-syndication, messaging-protocols, standards-oriented browsers with plugins and extensions, and various client-applications. Web 2.0 technology has went far beyond any expectations of the so-called "Web 1.0".
Web 2.0 websites typically include:
- Folksonomies, now this is a word! It refers to the collaborative taggins, social classification, and social indexing
- Valid XHTML and HTML markup
- RSS or Atom Syndication, aggregation
- Microformats extending pages with additional semantics
- REST and/or XML and/or JSON-based APIs
- Weblog (Blog) publishing tools
- Rich Internet application techniques, often Ajax and/or Flex/Flash-based
- mashups, merging content from different sources, client- and server-side
- Wiki's, forum's, software
- CSS - Cascading Style Sheets which aid in separation and presentation

I was around in 2004, as I am sure you were too. Do you remember Orkut? because I sure don't
Orkut is a social networking service, one of the first Web 2.0 applications, and one of the first developed by Google. Google had named Orkut after its creator. This Web 2.0 service started like any other, targeted towards the United States. It was designed to assist web users in meeting new friends and maintaining online or existing relationships. Since October 2006, this Web 2.0 service has permitted users to create accounts without an invitation. Unlike other hot Web 2.0 social networking sites, like myspace, hi5, facebook and Friendster, it is not a popular website in the United States of America and Canada.
